One of the most successful Bangladesh-India joint productions, Hothat Brishti, is set to return with a sequel titled Abaar Hothat Brishti, 27 years after its original release.
The new film is being jointly produced by Ashirbad Chalachchitra and Impress Telefilm, featuring an entirely new cast. Production officially begins today with a ceremonial launch.
The original film, directed by Basudev Chatterjee and released in 1998, introduced fresh faces to the screen. The chemistry between Ferdous Ahmed and Priyanka Trivedi, who played the lead roles, captivated audiences and contributed significantly to the film`s popularity.
Following its initial release, the film saw overwhelming success in cinemas, especially among young viewers.
Hothat Brishti was not only a commercial success but also received critical acclaim. That year, it won the only two categories awarded at the National Film Awards in Bangladesh—Best Actor for Ferdous Ahmed and Best Cinematography for Akhtar Hossain.
In 2023, marking the film’s 25th anniversary, a commemorative book was published featuring the original screenplay, behind-the-scenes photos, and reflections from cast and crew.
The upcoming sequel will be directed by Kamruzzaman and will feature a new lead pair, whose names are set to be revealed during the launch event. Veteran actors such as Azad Abul Kalam and Farzana Chobi will also be part of the cast.
Shooting begins at a production house in Uttara, where the film’s journey is officially taking off.
